What is a maternity belt or pregnancy band?

A belly band, often also called a belly wrap or maternity belt, is an elastic material that goes around your abdomen.

These belly binders are usually worn after giving birth or having stomach surgery to help shrink your post pregnancy belly – and let’s be honest, who can’t do with a little help after 9 months of being pregnant.

The compression of a maternity support band is meant to reduce inflammation and  increases blood flow, and this also aids with healing.

A belly band is meant to be tight but not so tight that it’s uncomfortable, or that you can’t sit or breathe easily

After you give birth, your baby leaves an empty uterus, and you need about six weeks for your uterus to go back to it’s normal size. A pregnancy band helps to speed up this shrinking and recovery process.

How long do you wear the Belly Bandit?

For best results we suggest to start wearing the Belly Bandit belly wrap straight after giving birth, for at least 6-8 weeks or more. You should also wear it as much as possible during the day and it’s comfortable enough to sleep in.

Basically the sooner you start and the longer you wear it, the faster you’ll see it work!

Belly Bandit Sizing

Proper sizing is import for your comfort and to ensure it works properly. Buying a Belly Bandit that’s too big will not wear well under clothing and may affect end results. Here’s some measurements and tips that will help you find the correct Belly band size.

Band SizesFits Belly Size
XS (extra small)28″ – 32″ = 71cm – 81cm
SM (small)33″ – 37″ = 84cm – 94cm
MED (medium)38″ – 43″ = 97cm – 110cm
LG (large)44″ – 49″ = 112cm -124cm
XL (extra large)50″ – 57″ = 127cm – 144

*Measurements are of the actual belly, NOT pant’s sizes

Pro tip: If you’re 1 or 2 inches bigger than size, then take a smaller size. e.g. if you’re 38-39 inches in measurement then rather take a small instead of medium (one size smaller)

how to fit belly bandit wrap

Simply measure the part of your tummy that is the biggest all the way around your abdomen, which is usually at the belly button. Choose the corresponding band for your size. Just prior to delivery simply subtract 3 to 5 inches from your belly measurement. Select the corresponding band for that size. If you buy your Belly Bandit after you give birth, just measure and choose the corresponding band for your belly size. The Belly Bandit is designed with five inches of adjustability to stay tight as you shrink.

If you are purchasing a Belly Bandit early on in your pregnancy, your best bet is to go up 1 to 2 band sizes from your pre-pregnancy belly size.

In the eighth month of pregnancy, lots of women will be about the same size as after they give birth. If you’re buying one just before giving birth, you can subtract about 3 to 5 inches off your belly measurement, and pick the respective band size.

If you purchase your Belly Bandit after giving birth, just pick the correct band for your belly size. The Belly Bandit is designed with five inches of adjustability to stay tight as you shrink.

Does the belly bandit work?

It does work, but sizing is important and most of the customers complaining that it didn’t work for them are because they got the wrong size. So do make sure you read the size guide above and measure properly otherwise it might not fit right. Many customers have reported that they got great results and customers with c-sections especially mentioned it helped them keep everything in place and heal faster. It’s also important to use it properly to see the results you’re expecting, so that means wearing it as often as you can for around 6 to 8 weeks.
